Kelani River is a major source of drinking water for more than 5 million people. A pollution free Kelani river would ensure safe drinking water for all of us, leading to a healthy life.
Conservation of the Kelani rive basin will improve the quality of life of all of us depend on it, especially the community whose livelihoods are directly linked with the river.
The Kelani River, which originates from the Western face of the central highlands in the Horton Plains National Park Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, is the second largest river basin and the fourth longest river in Sri Lanka.
The KRMP initiative uses a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) to design, manipulate, analyze and store spatial data. The map and GIS database contains around 100 maps. Explore them for strategic development, education and any other purpose.
The KRMP initiative has a wide-ranging water quality monitoring programme conducted in collaboration with the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Central Environment Authority, the Private Sector and schools.
The Kelani River Multi-Stakeholder Partnership has developed and published a number of reports under diverse key areas. The Kelani River Basin Management and Action Plan is one of the key publications.
